Family medicine shines at TMA's TexMed conference

Family physicians made a strong showing at this year’s TexMed conference, held by the Texas Medical Association. Two TAFP members were elected and TAFP hosted a new free CME opportunity for attendees.

Jonathan MacClements, MD, of Austin and Myphuong Theresa Phan, MD, of Houston were elected as alternate delegates to the American Medical Association House of Delegates. They will represent Texas to the national delegation, reinforcing the voice of family medicine in AMA policymaking. Congratulations to Drs. MacClements and Phan and thank you for representing the specialty of family medicine so well!

TAFP also marked a milestone at TexMed by hosting our first-ever Primary Care Update, which was open to all conference attendees and provided free CME. The session drew around 60 physicians from both family medicine and other specialties, highlighting a growing interest in cross-disciplinary collaboration and education in primary care. Topics presented included COPD, skin infections, and polypharmacy in the elderly.

“The Primary Care Update was a great success,” said Jessica Miley, TAFP Director of CME and Compliance. “It’s exciting to see this kind of engagement from physicians across specialties who recognize the importance of high-quality, comprehensive care.”

With a strong presence at TexMed and new initiatives like the Primary Care Update, TAFP continues to champion family medicine and ensure its members are equipped to meet the evolving needs of patients and communities.
