Help TAFP celebrate National Voter Registration Day
A special message from TAFP board chair and president
By Emily Briggs, MD, MPH; and Terrance Hines, MD
As a family physician, your influence extends far beyond the exam room. You have the unique ability to impact the health and well-being of your patients in countless ways, including supporting their civic engagement.
National Voter Registration Day is a national movement that has registered more than five million voters since 2012. To celebrate the big day on September 17, TAFP has partnered with Vot-ER, a nationwide, non-partisan initiative to help register voters.
We invite you to participate in this important initiative by helping your family members, neighbors, staff, and patients register to vote. Here are a few simple ways you can get involved and of course, don't forget to make sure you are also registered to vote.
- Order your FREE Vot-ER Badge
- Discuss the importance of voting with your patients during their visits
- Host a voter registration drive on site
Voting is a fundamental right and a critical component of a healthy democracy. The American Medical Association recognizes voting as a social determinant of health, acknowledging that civic participation influences the allocation of resources, the creation of policies, and the overall health of communities. By providing voter registration information and resources in your practice, you can help ensure that every eligible individual has the opportunity to make their voice heard.
We encourage you to join us in this effort and make voter registration a part of your practice’s commitment to patient care.
